Intentions

I would like to make my intentions fully known right here. I have read a few friends' blogs lately that have apologies that they are posting their pictures from christmas so late. For the first couple I was shocked that it was late to post photos, but then I realized that it is half way through January...so maybe it is alittle late. BUT I fully on intend on posting about Christmas, no matter how long it has been. Also, I do not on intend on doing it right now, and I am okay with that.

In the meantime, here is a great story from work:

In our office we routinely have patients leave us urine samples. They are brought to the bathroom and instructed to:
1. get a cup (from the huge stack of specimen cups in a basket in the bathroom.)
2. get a pen (from the mug on the shelf)
3. Write your name on the specimen cup
4. follow the "clean catch" rules posted on the wall when leaving your urine sample
5. pee into the cup AKA "leave us a sample"
6. put the cup in the silver box in the wall
7. return to exam room

So one of the nurses gave these intructions to a patient, who returned to the room after an appropriate time and said she had left the sample. The nurse went to the silver box and found no specimen cup. She was confused and inspected the bathroom to see if the patient had left the cup sitting in the bathroom, but no cup was found. She looked back in the silver box and realized that the pen mug was sitting in the silver box. She pulled it out and found that the patient had.
1. removed the pens from the mug
2. written her name on the ceramic mug
3. ignored the hug basket of specimen cups...directly in front of the toliet
4. peed in the ceramic mug
5. put mug in silver box
6. returned to the exam room

so now we have to get a new pen mug.

DIRECTIONS ARE IMPORTANT!!

Our pen mug doesn't look like this:

Pathetic??

I was driving home from work today and was thinking about all the shows that I am excited to watch on TV. I had a moment where I thought, "I am glad that I can get back into my routine of shows." I had to laugh at myself...I am pathetic. I get excited that I get to catch up on The office, Chuck, Biggest Loser, Private Practice and The Bachelor. I think I need to get a life, but until then I am enjoying eating while I watch The Biggest Loser.

ugh

I am visiting my family right now and I wanted to go for a run this morning. I was trying to decide how many layers I would need, so I went to weather.com. The report said 9 degrees, feels like -2. UGH!! Nine is gross enough as it is, but -2 is snotsickle weather.

I didn't go running this morning.

O-o-e-o, The White Stuff

On Friday night we were supposed to go up to Harrisonburg to see the 'rents. That's when the white stuff happened. It was supposed to start late and then go all day saturday. So that didn't happen, it was kind of closing down everything, and there were a bunch of wrecks between Richmond and H-burg, wo we decided to postpone the visit. While a bummer, we still got to play in all of the beautiful snow. On Saturday, we went to the main "Quad" in Chelsea and were sledding up a storm, using some Klondike sleds that the Scouts made for their Klondike activity last week. It was awesome, until this crusty lady poked her head out of her sliding door and said, "You all know I live in this room, right?" "Uh, no..." "Yeah, and I know it's fun outside, but you all being up woke me up." (It's frickin' 11 o'clock lady) [blank stare] "You know this is my porch and you're making it an eyesore out here." [blank stare] "You know I like you kids and I'm a good neighbor and I'd do anything for you kids, but you need to respect my privacy....blah...blah...blah..." "Yeah, sure, we'll go somewhere else." So we went to another little hill and had a really good time, it was a lot of fun. Take home message, "enjoy the weather, some people other than students sleep to 11"

From the apartment, yes, that's a lot of snow.

The Men on a sledding challenge.
Embarking up the hill.

Sometimes it felt like a long way

Right before the crusty old lady kicked us off her "patio"

I'm gonna write myself a note

Today I am annoyed at people asking for notes for work. I understand this is a perfectly acceptable thing to do at a doctor's office and there are many days where I don't mind doing it. Today, however, it annoyed me. I am going to write myself (and my nurse because she requested it) a note. It will say this:

Name: Heather Sedwick Date: 12/16/09

Please excuse patient from work today, she is sick of writing excusal notes. She will be out until bad attitude resolves.

Mary MOOOOOoaaaaaaa....she's vegetarian Mary Mo Mary Mo*

*She's not really a vegetarian, that's just how the song goes.

Happy Birthday to my mom today. Sometimes we call her Mary Mo and I think she is the best. Here are some reasons: (I know I can't even begin to list them all but this is what came to my head at the moment)

She is VERY creative and makes every single holiday a blast. I could always count on my mom decorating big for every holiday. On April Fool's Day she loved to come up with things to make the holiday exciting. Like one year when she put assorted kitchen/non kitchen items in a bag and we had to use whatever was in the bag as our plate and utensils for a spagetti dinner. Or one year she put a can of something (it might have been dog food) in my lunch bag for school and then I had to solve a puzzle to find out where to meet her to get my real lunch. She dyes everything from our milk, eggs and pancackes to the toliet water green on St. Patties day.

She is the most compassionate person and always worries about how others feel Even though I tend to be stubborn my mom can always see when I need a hug. She says, "come sit down on the couch with me and let me play with your hair." Then I put my head in her lap, she plays with my hair and lets me cry.

Even though she acts like a prude and says she doesn't like vulgar conversations at the dinner table, she is always the one who brings it up. I think she is hilarious.

She has these "vibes" that are really a super intense version of mother's intuition. Even though I hated it, I think she saved me from a lot of bad situations in junior high and high school.

She once told me, when I was a bratty teenager that, "Heather, one day we will be friends." I told her maybe in the next life, but it didn't take that long and now my mom is a best friend to me. I love my mom!!

Treated like Royalty

We went to the Greenbriar with Nancy(MIL), Dickie (Doodoo) and Mammie (Martha) for Thanksgiving. It is such an amazing place to stay. They make sure that every detail is perfect and beautiful. You are treated like royalty the whole time. My favorite story to illustrate this is that Dickie bought a pair of pants from one of the shops in the lobby and they tailored them and had them sitting in his room by that evening. Pressed and ready to wear. The food was incredible. I wish I could have taken a little bit of every single dish home so I could continue enjoying it. MMM...my mouth waters just thinking about it. We went to lots of cooking demos and a culinary class, so let me know if you want me to make you a pumpkin bisque that is incredible...I learned how. I Here are the highlight pictures...
Thank goodness for timers on cameras so we can all be in a picture.

Us with the executive sous chef at the culinary class, this guy helped train Michael Voltaggio (you won't know who that is unless you watch Top Chef...which we do) Still can't get over how good the food was. Ride that reindeer

All the night lights in the hotel say, "It's sleepy time down south." Welcome to Richard's life, always seeing me fall asleep.
Richard and Doo Doo
Taking advantage of the characiture artist that was the there for the kids...we're kids right??

The scavenger hunt (again...I think this may have been for the kids, but we loved it)

Mammie "reading" her book...I totally understand this.

The purpose of this picture is to show that my shoes match his shirt.
